The Holy One of Israel: Called

Isaiah 6:8-9  And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am! Send me."  (9)  And he said, "Go, and say to this people: "'Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.'
Most of us would not be excited about a ministry that is doomed to fail from the beginning. But when God calls us to obedience, He is not calling us to "success" by the world's definition. No, He is calling us to fruitfulness. Something we will not understand this side of heaven.

The Holy One of Israel: A Servey of Isaiah

Isaiah 1:18  "Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
Over 68 years of ministry to a people who would not listen and who would not obey. That's the story of Isaiah. But his ministry would impact the writing of the New Testament like no other book. Join us this summer as we take a survey of the book of Isaiah and behold our glorious God, The Holy One of Israel!

Honor your father and mother

Ephesians 6:1-4  Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  (2)  "Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise),  (3)  "that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land."  (4)  Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Why does God put such emphasis on the role of parents? Because parents will probably have the greatest influence in teaching children what submission looks like. Our greatest goal as parents is not to make more successful reproductions of ourselves. It is to present the most accurate representation of Godliness to our children as we can. Praying all the while that our children (either biological or other) would grow to know, love, and serve God better than ourselves.

Celebrate Recovery: Fighting for Holiness

2Samuel 11:1  In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle ... But David remained at Jerusalem.
It should come as no surprise to us that we fall back into sin when we find ourselves not doing what we already know we should be. This was David's fall that led him into sin with Bathsheba. It becomes our sin when we go back to alcohol or pornography or self-righteousness. Relaps is always a threat. And so we fight for holiness.

Celebrate Recovery: Peacemaker

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy." Matthew 5:7
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." Matthew 5:9
Forgiveness is not forgetting. Forgiveness is not ignoring the hurt caused. Forgiveness is releasing the debt owed because of the offense. This is exactly what God has done for us in Christ Jesus. Step 6 of Celebrate Recovery says, "Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those
who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others except
when to do so would harm them or others." Scary huh? But I long for mercy, so because of Christ I can give mercy. I long for peace, and so through Christ I make peace. You can do this to through Christ.

Celebrate Recovery: Pure

Matthew 5:8  "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
"Blessed are the pure in heart" doesn't just happen. It's to completed work of a slaughtered Savior, a relentless Spirit, and a loving Father. So if we are to see God, how do we get a pure heart? Believe the Gospel and all things lead back to it's truth.

Blessed are those who weep, for they shall be comforted.
Matthew 5:4
What if? What if there really is a God? What if that God revealed himself to mankind? What if mankind was supposed to reflect the character of that God and didn't? What if?
If we earnestly believe that God exists, that we matter to him, and that he has the power to help us recover from our brokenness, then we can be well on our way towards healing. Do you believe that God is?

Celebrate Recovery: Powerless without Jesus

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of God. Matthew 5:3
I'm an addict. I'm addicted to sin. And so are you. The Bible calls this our sin nature. That there are areas of our life that we simply are ashamed of, don't like, and wish no one would ever know about us reveals this truth about ourselves. It is to this point that Jesus says we are "blessed" if we are "poor in spirit". We realize we are not God and are spiritual bankrupted before him. It is only at this starting point that we can find genuine recovery.

The Idols We Keep

March 1:14-15  Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God,  (15)  and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.""Repentance" is often a term referred to as being only for "Hell fire" preaching term. Yet it was the core of what Jesus first message was, "Repent and believe the gospel." Only when we see our sin as sinful will the gospel actually be good new.
