We the Church: Who leads the church?
Monday Sep 07, 2015
Monday Sep 07, 2015
John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. When Jesus washed the disciples feet, He wasn't saying that they were "better" than Him or "more valuable" than Him. He was showing us the Biblical leadership is about submission. Submission to God, to lead a group to genuine intimacy. Who leads the church? Powerful business type executives? No, servants operating at the Trinity does with clear roles, and responsibilities. Oh that the Church would return to Biblical leadership!!Sermon Delivered to the Galena Bible Church, Sunday September 6th 2015 by Pastor Chris Kopp.

We the Church: Is church membership biblical?

Matthew 18:17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. When we use the term "Church discipline" people tend to get really uncomfortable. But discipline is the root discipleship. We were made for community and that community is most fully understood in the context of a healthy, connected local church.Sermon Delivered to the Galena Bible Church, Sunday August 23rd, 2015 by Pastor Chris Kopp.

We the Church: So just what is a church?
Tuesday Aug 18, 2015
Tuesday Aug 18, 2015
Mat 16:18b ... on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.You cannot "go to church". You can "go be with the church", "go to the church's building", or "see what a church is like", but you cannot "go to church". That's because the church is a "We" not an "It". The bride of Christ is made up of all the redeemed of all the ages, and is locally expressed in a Gospel centered community, who is making Jesus known. But even with that simple explanation, "Church" has come to mean something different to so many than it did for the early church. In this sermon we'll look at What the church is not, and also what the church is. Delivered to the Galena Bible Church, Sunday August 16th, 2015 by pastor Chris Kopp.

Colossians: The Gospel to You
Monday Aug 03, 2015
Monday Aug 03, 2015
The Gospel is personal. The Gospel is relational. The Gospel is Missional. These ideas are how Paul ends his letter to the church in Colossae. And it's something we need to remember.Sermon delivered to the Galena Bible Church, Sunday August 2nd, 2015 by pastor Chris Kopp.

Colossians: "Jesus and..." - Why religion cannot save.
Monday Jun 29, 2015
Monday Jun 29, 2015
Colossians 2:16-17 Therefore let no one
pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a
festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things
to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.Every
society ever discovered has some form of religious practice. The action
of doing certain things, or not doing certain things in an effort to
please a god or gods. If your faith is in what you do, rather than
repenting in light of what Jesus did, your faith is in religion, and it
will not save. In this text we look at how Paul calls the Colossian
believers to fix their hope on Christ and not on any religious practice
as their source of salvation security.Delivered to the Galena Bible Church, Sunday June 28th, 2015.

Colossians: Beware the false gospel
Monday Jun 22, 2015
Monday Jun 22, 2015
Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one
takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human
tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not
according to Christ.Paul
agonized for this little church because of the man centered false
gospel that was being taught there. Like a salesman selling a lead vest
as a life preserver, a false gospel has the trappings of what we want,
but the inability to actually save. The Gospel of Jesus is our only
hope.Sermon Delivered to the Galena Bible Church, Sunday June 21st, 2014

Colossians: Christ in you the Hope of Glory
Monday Jun 15, 2015
Monday Jun 15, 2015
Colossians 1:27 To them God chose to
make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of
this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. There
is a mystery in the work of Christ that is not revealed in nature. It
must be revealed through a supernatural move of God. Paul says that he
has revealed this mystery to the Gentile churches through two means: a
stewardship of suffering, and fully and faithfully preaching the Gospel.
In this sermon we look at Colossians 1:24-29 and see how we can reveal
Christ in us, the hope of Glory.Delivered to the Galena Bible Church, Sunday June 14th, 2015.
